Feast brings respite from odd routines

On an important occasion, I had the great opportunity to attend a feast arranged at a posh hotel in our famous city of Kanpur's famous Jajmau area. Various delicious items were arranged on the stylish table. The guests were really free to choose what they liked to consume. There was a considerable rush but not in any way uncontrollable when I entered the grand air conditioning space. Soon, the humble host emerged, and we liked to embrace each other as human decency permits us to do. I did not lose much time sharing a light joke. I briefed him that I saw you standing from just outside, but you were out of sight the moment I entered the hall.  He, in his usual manner, did not pause to say how a man so fat could not be viewed from quite a short distance. Thus we laughed to the full heartily. Among various dishes, there was also the regular Biryani. How would it be neglected owing to its wide acceptability? Musical move!

BBC reports that the app TikTok is beginning to remove more music from its publicised platform. This has been initiated as part of a continuing row over royalties with Universal Music Group.

Songs have already been silenced sung by artists signed to the label, but is now having to do the same with writers too. This means that videos featuring songs by artists such as Harry Styles and Adele, who have written with Universal-signed artists, could soon be muted.

The app clearly says up to 30% of the popular songs could be lost. Some industry estimates indicate up to 80% of all music on this popular app could be muted. That is because of split copyrights.

In other words, if a songwriter signed to Universal Music's publishing arm has contributed even a tiny part to a song, that entire recording will, in theory, have to face the music.

That would also include songs by artists on other labels, including the two remaining majors, Sony and Warner, and hundreds of independents. What a step!

Universal's music was licensed to TikTok until earlier this year - but they let the license lapse after failing to reach an agreement over how much the app should pay artists.
