'UK has fewer millionaires'
What concerns British analysts more is that there are fewer millionaires than at any time since the global financial crisis began. There were as many as 442,000 millionaires last year, as said. It is down 7% since the year 2024.
It also shows the lowest level since the year 2008, when there were about 400,000, according to a millionaire tracker.
Andrew Griffith said: Britain now has fewer millionaires to contribute to the tax pool to raise jobs and businesses.
This exists due to declining real asset prices, a low household savings rate and the emigration of high-net-worth individuals.
Each millionaire means less money for the NHS or defence, higher taxes for working people, and fewer suitable jobs. We can’t make an economy on jealousy, hence.
One in six people and families did not appear in the 2026 rankings, with experts indicating more homegrown British billionaires relocating to regions such as Dubai and Monaco.
The fall in the number of millionaires may be lauded as a hit by some on the Left, but it should rather be regarded as an alarm signal.
Every millionaire that leaves means less capital for British businesses, fewer international links, and weaker entrepreneurial spirit in the economy, as experts hint.
Lately mooted anti-wealth proposals, such as a wealth tax or balancing the capital gains tax rate with income tax, will only make the position additionally flawed.
