Germans ape English by using apostrophe

Worldwide, a large number of individuals articulate in English definitely. According to an assessed figure, as many as 1.35 billion people convey their utterances in English. Contrarily, it is estimated that there are a total of 90 million born German speakers all over the world.

Likewise, between 10 and 25 million people communicate German as a second language, and 75 and 100 million people speak German as a foreign language. This is a figure cited by a news item.

Now, it appears to be a reasonable time for Germans to register a new acquisition into the dictionary, whose identity fits beautifully with their specified concept.

With the foreign language world abruptly experiencing extraordinary modification, it is being guessed forcefully that bringing the English words has the imagination, assertive aesthetic reason, professionalism and also expertise required to meet the challenge.

However, for decades now, a lot of Germans have been copying the English language by adopting the apostrophe to indicate possession.

Language watchers have had to push a big change because of the random application of what is known as the Deppen- apostrophe, or "idiot's apostrophe. "

Since the year 2004, the Council for German Orthography has been evaluating the leading source of Standard High German spelling and grammar. The institution is trusted for school textbooks in different countries like Germany, Austria, and Switzerland.

It apprised that as of the year 2025, an apostrophe used to imply possession will be deemed accurate. The decision has prompted anger among German media commentators, who more or less oppose the dominance of the English language.

In Austria, the move was amply criticised as another "normalisation of Anglicism". It also cursed the council’s conclusion as further confirmation of the English language’s victory march.

In Germany, a commentator reportedly said noticing signs like “Harald’s Eck” (“Harald’s Corner”) made him very frightened.

Grammar purists regard the punctuation mark known as Deppen-Apostrophe ("idiot's apostrophe") as yet another hint that the English language is seemingly infringing on German-speaking nations, even though it is not needed in German to mark possession because of the language's genitive grammatical claim.
